Around Koriyama City, there are plenty of curry restaurants run by foreigners!
From India and Nepal to Pakistan, each shop features distinctive decor and interiors.
Here are some places where you can enjoy an Asian ambience and authentic flavors.
1.Asaka-machi, Koriyama City "Indian & Nepalese Cuisine Manushi"
Located on the first floor of Amuse Park in Asaka-machi, Koriyama City, "Manushi" is a restaurant specializing in Indian and Nepalese cuisine. In addition to great flavors, the courteous and friendly service has earned a strong reputation, and you can enjoy authentic curries made by a Nepalese chef along with house-made naan.
The front entrance facing the Eastern Arterial Road stands out with its yellow exterior. There is another entrance on the parking-lot side at the back, where neon lights create a different atmosphere from the front. Inside, there are zashiki (tatami) seats and table seating, offering a spacious, open feel. Nepalese flags and ornaments brighten the space, and cheerful Asian music plays, letting you soak up an exotic vibe.
There are more than 15 kinds of curry, starting with the most popular butter chicken, and including mutton and seafood. The curry of the day features quirky options such as "boiled egg curry" and "pumpkin keema."
They have also brought back, by popular demand, former seasonal items as regular menu staples, such as "Manushi-style curry udon," which combines spices with udon noodles, and the irresistibly sweet "Reverse Choco Naan" lavishly made with chocolate chips and chocolate sauce and topped with vanilla ice cream. A monthly "Bento Day" offers Manushi bento boxes at a great price, and occasional events like buffets are also held, making it a place youll want to visit again and again.
On weekdays at lunch, many solo diners visit during their work breaks, and on weekday evenings the place bustles with nearby high school students. On holidays, many guests with children and families visit, and Manushi is loved by many people. Manager Goda speaks Japanese very well, and the other staff are all smiles, creating a friendly atmosphere. In addition to the extensive menu, the warmth of the staff and the ambience in the restaurant are part of Manushi’s charm, winning many repeat customers. Visit once and you’ll want to go again—do stop by “Manushi.”

2. Koriyama City, Kaguike “New Taj Mahal”
Opened in April 2024 along Route 49 in Kaguiike, Koriyama City, “New Taj Mahal.”
It once had a shop in front of Koriyama Station and was the first authentic curry specialty restaurant in Koriyama. After the earthquake, it closed for a while, but restarted thanks to enthusiastic requests from customers who couldn’t forget its delicious taste. It’s now attracting attention as a “legendary curry shop.”
The Pakistani chef is a talented professional who has even been honored at a Master Chef competition.
The menu features authentic Pakistani dishes that are not very familiar in Japan and can only be enjoyed here.
There’s also a rich selection of side dishes that make perfect snacks, so it seems nice to enjoy them with drinks in the evening.
The owner is also Pakistani, but having lived in Japan for many years, speaks excellent Japanese, and conversations naturally get lively.
Almost all items except the sets are available for takeout. They also offer catering services according to your budget.
Inside the spacious store, there is also a section selling “halal food.”
“Halal food” refers to foods and dishes that can be eaten in accordance with Islamic teachings.
People of various nationalities living in Koriyama come to New Taj Mahal to buy halal food.
Restaurant owners are of course welcome, and so are general customers, so if you like multinational cuisine and foreign cultures, it’s a fun place just to look at the products.
They can also briefly teach you how to cook the dishes, so it sounds fun to try Pakistani cuisine at home.
The restaurant can be reserved for large private parties.

3. Asaka-machi, Koriyama City “Indian & Nepalese Cuisine Mayadevi”
Asakamachi 3-chome, Koriyama City. Maya Devi is a specialty Indian–Nepalese restaurant run by Indians. The charm of this place is that, in addition to curry, you can enjoy ethnic dishes such as tom yum noodles and gapao rice. The hearty tom yum noodles, served in a bowl so big it seems ready to overflow, are topped with plenty of vegetables and are healthy. Properly spicy—you'll be working up a sweat as you eat. Condiments such as lemon juice and fish sauce (nam pla) are brought along, so you can tweak the flavor to your liking.
A wide variety of lunches for different customers are popular, such as the Tandoori Lunch that includes tandoori chicken in addition to curry and naan, the Ladies’ Lunch for women, and the Vegetarian Lunch where you can choose two kinds of vegetable curry. Also appealing are authentic Indian sets that are rare in Koriyama, such as the Kadai Chicken Set and the Murghi Handi Set.

The takeout menu is also extensive; in addition to naan and authentic curry, side dishes such as meat dishes are also available to go, making it perfect for a casual home party! A beer and tandoori chicken set is available for under 1,000 yen at an affordable price, and the dinner hours are lively and bustling.
