There are probably many curry lovers who adore it so much they could eat it every day…! For them, a welcome find is a cozy, hideaway-style spot thats easy to slip into even when dining solo. You can savor your favorite curry without worrying about the gaze of others. This time, we introduce hideaway-like curry restaurants in Koriyama that are welcoming to solo diners.
1. 「CurryCafeでここ」 quietly nestled in nature-rich Miharu Town
In January 2025, a curry specialty shop opened in Miharu Town, Tamura District, a short distance from Koriyama. The name is "CurryCafeでここ".
Nestled in a back alley along the Sakuragawa River, it’s a curry shop run by a married couple. A true hideaway in a spot you might pass by if you didn’t know it.
The gentle murmur of the river is soothing, and there’s a walking path right in front of the shop. It’s a nature-rich area where you can hear birds chirping and insects singing.
A retro exterior inspired by a traditional kura storehouse. Inside, warm wooden interiors. Table seating and a counter with eye-catching tiles.
They serve authentic spice curry. It has a touch of "wa" (Japanese flair), slightly unusual in that it comes with pickles on the side.
The most popular item is "Butter Chicken Curry." It’s completely different from the classic butter chicken curry you might have at Indian restaurants, so first-timers may be a little surprised. Their butter chicken curry uses banana, giving it a subtly fruity note. A mild curry mixed with tender tandoori chicken that even children can enjoy.
Other offerings include "Salt Simmered Pork Curry" and "European-Style Beef Curry," a lineup that makes you want to try and compare. Not only the curry, but also the drinks and sweets show great care. Craft cola that pairs well with spice curry, and an original blend coffee roasted at East Village Roasters in Shirakawa City. For dessert, the wife’s rich homemade panna cotta and more—satisfaction right through to the finale.

2. Enjoy authentic beef tendon curry in a bar-like atmosphere at 「堂前牛すじカレー」
郡山市堂前町. Using the fluttering “beef tendon curry” banner near 金透公民館 on 麓山通り as your landmark, turn into the lane and you’ll spot a small standing signboard.
「堂前牛すじカレー」. A lunch-only curry shop that opened in March 2024.
Push the door open and a chic, mature space lit by indirect lighting unfolds. In fact, at night this place becomes a bar called “Bar CANPAI.” The calm, bar-like interior is filled with the aroma of spices, adding an extra stylish touch.
There are three two-person tables and four counter seats. It’s a small shop, but the subdued lighting keeps you from being bothered by other guests.
The signature dish is “beef tendon curry (900円).” A special beef curry made with 100% domestic beef tendon. After much trial and error, the owner pursued the perfect balance of caramelized onions, spices, and aromatic vegetables. One bite and you’ll be amazed by its deep richness; the gentle, spreading spice creates an addictive finish.
Other options include “grilled cheese curry (1,100円),” their proud beef tendon curry topped with cheese and torched, and a “special keema curry (1,000円)” with a spice blend tailored to pork—each dish crafted with care.
Be sure to enjoy a lassi, handmade to order.
If you’re visiting solo, the counter seats are recommended. With bottles lined up on the shelves and refined cutlery, it feels like you’ve come to drink at a bar even in the daytime. If it’s a quiet time, you might even enjoy a chat with the manager.
With its hideaway-like comfort and curry that’s simply delicious without any off-flavors, 「堂前牛すじカレー」 is sure to have you coming back again and again. Do stop by at least once.
