Grand Festival for Pet Lovers Dog and Cat Exhibition and Sale

During the Muromachi period, branches of the Ashikaga clan connected to the shogunal family were stationed in Inamura, Sukagawa City, and Sasakawa, Koriyama City, and palaces were established. We introduce the two palaces that exerted great influence over the southern part of Mutsu Province (present-day Fukushima Prefecture), together with the palaces and castle residences located in the Nakadōri and Aizu regions.

Tasha Tudor (1915–2008) led a rich, slow-paced life amid the magnificent nature of Vermont, USA, and her unadorned, effortless, natural way of living has long captivated many people. This exhibition shines a light on Tasha Tudor’s life, which has had relatively few opportunities to be introduced. From her child-rearing years in New Hampshire, to the 19th-century rural lifestyle in which she realized her dreams, her path to becoming a picture-book author, and her solitary life in Vermont... we explore the trajectory of her life, so full of richness and charm. The exhibition features around 250 items, including original picture-book illustrations and sketches, tools Tasha Tudor cherished and used in her daily life, and antique dresses from her collection. The way Tasha continued to enjoy life with a positive spirit until she passed away at the age of 92 will surely offer many insights to those of us living today.

Kick off your day off with a morning of classic rakugo. The program is planned to feature a longer makura (opening) and either two rakugo stories or one long story. Even if you want to try rakugo but find going to a yose theater a bit daunting…, this is a quick, casual gathering in a conference room—so come by at least once! On July 19, 『Karatedo Zendokai』 will hold the 『Zendokai Comprehensive Martial Arts Seminar ＆ Trial Session』 at Asaka Community Center (Sun Fresh Koriyama) in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. Our organization has produced many famous fighters, including Kai Asakura, active in the UFC, and Shizuka Sugiyama, who excelled as a top female fighter, and we have numerous branches and dojos not only in Japan but also overseas. The theme of the seminar is the “basic principles of budo,” such as “correct posture,” “natural walking,” and “breathing methods.” These principles, emphasized in martial arts to transmit great power with minimal movement, are also useful for health maintenance, anti-aging, and everyday stress care. This event also serves to introduce the 『Karatedo Zendokai-certified Koriyama Dojo』, the first that Zendokai will open in the Tohoku region. A karate trial session will also be held on the day, so you can immediately practice and experience the body mechanics learned in the seminar. The Fukushima Central Television Koriyama Children’s Choir will join the encore to perform “楽都こおりやま,” composed by Akira Miyagawa. “楽都こおりやま” is a piece commissioned from Akira Miyagawa by the Koriyama Music Federation to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Koriyama’s municipal government and the 50th anniversary of the Koriyama Music Federation. We will present this special work connected to Koriyama together with Akira Miyagawa & アンサンブル・ベガ.

Natsumode is a new form of prayer at this midpoint of the year, offering thanks for the past six months and praying for safety in the months to come. In Reiwa 8, at Tokujo-ji, we will host “Natsumode” for the first time. From 5:00 p.m. on July 25, we will enshrine Atago Sonten, revered as a deity of fire prevention, and Shogun Jizo-son, venerated as a guardian Buddha of victory and warding off misfortune, and will solemnly conduct a special prayer service, praying for the fulfillment of everyone’s wishes. There are times in life when we must take a step forward. Work, entrance exams, business, health, relationships— Please spend a quiet moment, joining your hands before the Buddha, with your own wish in your heart. After the prayer service, we will welcome singer-songwriter Fukuhara Kimie and hold “Between Dharma Talk and Music.” A rich time woven by dharma talk and music—beyond what words or sounds can express. We hope it will be a moment to listen to your own voice that you may have nearly forgotten amid the busyness of daily life. During the period, an ikebana exhibition by the Ohara-ryu Koriyama Branch will be held. The beautiful spaces created by flowers will gently adorn the place of prayer. Furthermore, we have prepared a special goshuin limited to 100, available only for these two days. We would be grateful if you would receive it as a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
